Human presence detection sensors allow your ESP32 or Arduino project to intelligently respond when a person is nearby, without relying on motion or distance measurements. Unlike traditional motion detectors, these sensors are designed to detect the subtle presence of a person—even if they are stationary—for a more accurate and context-aware system.
These presence sensors are ideal for smart building automation, energy-saving lighting systems, office occupancy tracking, and touchless interfaces. They enable devices to activate or adjust behavior based on whether a person is present in a room or zone.
Common modules used for presence detection include microwave radar sensors like the RCWL-0516 and advanced millimeter-wave (mmWave) sensors such as the LD2410.
